Jason Thornton Quartet

Dr Jason Thornton is one of Queenstown's newest permanent residents. Hailing originally from Sydney, he has had a prolific international career spanning nearly three decades in both performance and academia. As an academic Jason has been associated with Universities in Australia, Scotland, Canada and now here in New Zealand.

This virtuosic saxophonist has played with some of the greatest artists in history, spanning many genre including Modern Jazz, Big Band, Latin, Funk and Rock. He has been associated with Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey, Wayne Shorter, James Taylor, Ernie Watts, Gloria Estefan, Cher and Lenny Pickett to name but a few. His tours have taken him all around the world several times over and at last have brought him to Queenstown to stay.

The band's Jason has led have always been exciting and innovative, incorporating the best and most interesting musicians wherever he is performing - covering ground from Free Jazz through all forms of modernism to straight ahead swing.
