Tim BeveridgeASB Queenstown JazzFest 2008 headliner Tim Beveridge is New Zealand's answer to Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. Arguably one of the world's great voices and a fine interpreter of jazz standards, Tim is sure to be a crowd pleaser with his Ultimate Vegas Experience cabaret show. The big swing band sound and popular repertoire of songs will have all ages tapping their toes and singing along. Tim's career has progressed in leaps and bounds since he abandoned life as a lawyer 12 years ago. He started in musical theatre and at 29 he was the youngest performer ever to play the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera. He then emerged on the world stage as a finalist in the world's most prestigious musical theatre competition, the BBC Voice of Musical Theatre in the UK, in both 2000 and 2002. Tim has sung with stars like Sir Howard Morrison, Dame Malvina Major, Frankie Stevens, Hayley Westenra, and has also performed the national anthem for the All Blacks. He's sung in every major venue in New Zealand and at the Sydney Opera House and Melbourne Concert Hall. He's had sell-out headline appearances at the Hamilton Gardens Festival, and has conceived, produced, directed and starred in the massive Rotorua Lakeside Festival for the last ten years. Tim's first CD, "Singer" with the NZSO, went gold within 4 weeks of release and his second album "Come Rain Come Shine" was mentored by Hollywood arranger and conductor Russ Garcia. The album features big band arrangements of old classics mostly from the 1950s and '60s, from artists like Sammy Davis Jnr, Bobby Darin, Burt Bacharach and Frank Sinatra, as well as some contemporary songs. A surprise inclusion is Neil Finn's ‘Something So Strong', performed with a small jazz combo.
