Will Martin is a Dunedin based pianist who teams up with double bassist Craig Sinclair and Roy de Hamel to form "The Will Martin Trio" for this concert .
At the festival, this group will present a tribute to the legendary Bill Evans, who advanced the harmonic vocabulary of improvised music and added complexity of touch and counterpoint to the tradition of jazz piano. Over the years, Evans played with a number of virtuoso double bassists, such as Scott La Faro and Eddie Gomez, who have inspired Craig Sinclair's contemporary approach to the instrument.
Playing rarely heard tunes such as Gloria's Step, Time Remembered, Israel and Elsa, this gig will be a treat for those who appreciated the softer side of jazz and the dynamic interplay between piano, bass and drums in an acoustic environment.
